: EXCUSES vs SOLUTIONS

These excuses and solutions were posted on a new dietary mailing list that I am on, and i thought they were very good. So what the hell, I'll stick 'em up on my page :)

1. With my schedule, it's impossible to eat right.

Schedules can pose a problem, but there is always a solution. You need to think creatively to find one. Remember, "argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours." Don't let yourself be trapped by this.

2. There's too much stress in my life for me to handle managing weight.

Stress is always present in life. There's never a good time to manage weight. There's only today. Using food to manage stress won't help. Find better ways to manage stress, including managing time better and finding ways to stay relaxed in the face of it.

3. I deserve a little treat now and then.

Yes, You do deserve a treat now and then, but it doesn't have to be food. How about a bubble bath or a long walk in the woods. How can I treat myself without using food?

4. I paid for it; I'm going to eat it.

If you eat it, you'll pay even more for it -- in terms of self-esteem and additional effort to manage weight. Give it away, take it home, or just leave it.

5. I can't just let it go to waste. After all, "waste not, want not."

"Waste not, want not" is an old saying that made sense once, but doesn't make sense any more. Let go of old ideas.

6. The poor starving children in...

Your eating habits won't help any starving children anywhere. This was just a guilt trip laid on every child to get them to eat.

7. No one will see me now, so why not?

No one will see you, but you'll know. Just because no one sees youdoesn't mean the calories don't count. Who are you tricking anyway? YOU! you're the one who pays the price. Why not find something else to occupy the time when you're alone, or call someone to be with you.

8. I've been so good, I deserve it.

If you do deserve to celebrate, don't do it with food. Treat yourself by doing something nice - like buying a new item of clothing in the smaller size, arrange to have a massage. don't damage the work in progress!!!

9. I might never again get a chance to eat this.

True, but You'll also forget it quickly. If youdo eat it, the pounds will be with me a LOT longer than the taste.

10. Well, there goes my diet; I may as well give up.

A temporary setback does not have to signal full blown backsliding. Just because you slipped doesn't mean you should give up. You need to pick yourself up immediately and renew your efforts.

11. I always blow it on weekends.

Weekends are difficult, but you don't have to blow it. Take charge by planning ahead how to handle them differently.

12. The holidays only come once a year.

Even "once a year" isn't a good excuse to pig out. You can plan ahead how to enjoy yourself without overdoing.

13. I'm craving it, so my body must need it.

Your body does not "crave" anything; the mind does. You need to change the focus of my thoughts to avoid cravings. You also need to make sure you are eating regularly and making healthy choices.

14. I've got to eat so I won't get a headache.

Preventative eating is an excuse based on fear, not reality. If eating regularly and making healthy choices, you won't get a headache. If you do start to get a headache, it's more likely from poor stress management, and that's where you need to focus my efforts.

15. I was meant to be fat.

Genes are not destiny. Think about the fact that you can overcome even a biological tendency to fatness by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

16. I'm so tired, and I don't feel like cooking.

Have a glass of juice as a pick-me-up and relax with a hot bath or a nice walk. Then you'll be in a better frame of mind to fix dinner.

17. I feel fat and ugly, so I must be fat and ugly; I may as well eat!

When feeling down, a lot of people often conclude it's because "I'm fat", when it's really because other things are getting to them. Check on the scale to see if you've gained weight, or you can do something nice for yourself other than eating.

Well then, what excuses do you have left NOW eh?????? - if you do have any more excusesd that are dissimilar enough to warrant a number 18, then e-mail me with the excuse, and i will add on a solution for you. Hell, it may even become a "comprehensive list" if i get enough requests!! LOL!
